How it all started….
The history of Arie Rustenburg & Zn B.V. starts in 1937. The first Rustenburg generation starts with selling of potatoes, vegetables and fruit on the ‘Food Center’ in Amsterdam. Trade was bought smart and sold at different places in North-Holland.
Arie, son of the founder, helped with chores at the age of 14 in the company of his father. In 1966 the business of his father was takeover by Arie Rustenburg (see picture below). Willy, his wife, was an indispensable factor, who runs all administrative tasks to brought the wholesale trading market up to a higher level.
At the picture below you’ll see Arie & Willy Rustenburg during the presentation of the Festival of Food in 1984 (50th anniversary) op de ‘Centrale Groothandelsmarkt’ at Amsterdam. Everyone has the chance to present their wholesale at best for the festival. The .. price was awarded to Arie Rustenburg & Zn B.V.

Later on the three sons of Arie and Willy: Michel, Robin and Edwin worked at a young age at the grocery/wholesale to master the tradingmarket of their parents business. When Michel at the age of 18 completed the secondary school, he was conviced that the trade has stole his hart and got into the company of his father Arie. Also son Robin was active in the business, with specific interests in agriculture and horticulture. Edwin had also passion for trading market, but he sells vegetables & fruit by his own through door-to-door selling instead of the wholesale of his father in Amsterdam.

In 1997 a carrot production and packaging in Opperdoes is set up besides the trade in vegetables and fruit. Through the years investments in equipment innovations, extension of workspace have been made in order to evolve with the times and reach the demand of the customer. This results in a efficient workspace where tons of carrots will be washed, packed and sold to customers, suppliers and supermarkets in many different ways.

After fourthy years of good and loyal service to the fruit and vegetable trade Arie hands it on in 2006 to his sons Michel and Robin Rustenburg. Already Frank Rustenburg, the son of Michel Rustenburg have made his appereance in the company. Besides that all other sons and daughters are operating in the business. The future is guaranteed at Arie Rustenburg & Zonen B.V.!
